Learn more at https://www.jnj.com/medtech Purpose: The Staff Engineer will play a vital role in ensuring the quality and reliability of complex surgical products developed by Johnson & Johnson Surgical. This position involves supporting System, Hardware, and Software Verification and Validation activities through the development and validation of test methods and tools, along with protocol generation, execution, report generation, and issue tracking.

Requirements

  • BS in Math, Science or Engineering, or equivalent years of work experience
  • Requires 5+ years of experience in medical device testing
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams
  • Ability to coach more junior colleagues in techniques, processes, and responsibilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in optical, laser, or diagnostic equipment testing
  • Provide technical leadership for the V&V project team, setting test strategy, supervising execution, and meeting project timelines.
  • Strong understanding of Medical Device Design Controls (e.g., ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 62304)
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical, electrical, or software-based device testing
  • Proficiency in requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, Polarion)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and root cause analysis skills
  • Excellent documentation and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable Corporate and Divisional policies and procedures.
  • Conduct integration testing of new functionalities and enhancements within surgical systems.
  • Execute compatibility testing with both new and existing market products to ensure optimal performance and interoperability.
  • Identify, document, and verify the resolution of issues by collaborating closely with cross-functional teams.
  • Effectively communicate testing status and progress to peers and management.
  • Ensure the completeness, accuracy, and testability of product requirements, collaborating with relevant stakeholders.
  • Develop test approaches and methodologies; write, execute, and document comprehensive test protocols; and create detailed test reports.
  • Review and approve engineering design documentation, ensuring it aligns with testing and regulatory standards
  • Contribute technical knowledge as necessary to support research and development initiatives in a collaborative team environment
