About The Position

Are you a civil engineer passionate about building and improving communities? Highland City is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Staff Engineer to join our Public Works team. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in the planning, design, and construction of essential city infrastructure projects that directly impact the lives of our residents. In this multifaceted position, you will be the driving force behind key public works initiatives. You will manage private development projects from start to finish, ensuring compliance and providing expert guidance. You will also oversee our MS4 stormwater program , ensuring the city meets all environmental regulations. This role is a perfect fit for a self-starter who excels at both technical design and collaborative project management.

Requirements

  • EIT (Engineer-in-Training): Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. 1-3 years of relevant experience. Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification. Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and ArcGIS .
  • Staff Engineer (PE): Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. 3-6 years of relevant experience. Professional Engineer (PE) license. Strong proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and ArcGIS .
  • All applicants must possess an excellent understanding of civil engineering principles, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • All qualified applicants must pass a pre-employment testing including but not limited to: Background check (18 years of age and older), Driving Record Review, Drug Screen, and Human Performance Evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • Development Engineering: Take the lead on private development projects by reviewing plans, providing feedback, and ensuring compliance with City, State, and Federal regulations.
  • MS4 Program Management: Oversee the city's stormwater system, manage compliance, and conduct inspections to maintain environmental standards.
  • GIS Management: Utilize ESRI products to maintain and update the city's GIS records, integrating field data and project as-builts.
  • Project Management: Prepare and manage bid packages for a diverse range of projects, from street improvements to trail construction.
  • Citizen Engagement: Serve as a key point of contact for citizens, addressing their inquiries and providing excellent customer service.
