About The Position

Responsible for the mechanical design and development of medical devices; works on complex projects requiring evaluation of advanced theoretical studies or test programs. Collaborates in advanced mechanical design studies and considers the interrelationship between mechanical engineering and other functional areas during all phases of design. Develops solutions to mechanical design and test problems. May establish design objectives. Expected to act as Project Leader on a medium, complex project establishing the project plan, budget, and timelines.

Requirements

  • BS in engineering discipline, mechanical preferred.
  • Minumum 8 years related experience in design/product development of electromechanical assemblies including technical supervision of projects or sub-projects.
  • Experience with a solid modeling CAD program, preferably Solidworks.
  • Experience in medical equipment / device design with experience in electromechanical, electro-pneumatic, and/or blood pumping equipment development.
  • Advanced knowledge of FDA, IEC and UL standards relating to medical electronic equipment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows, MS Office applications, and Adobe Acrobat.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Microsoft Visio and Microsoft Project preferred.

  • Define technical direction and best practices for engineering teams.
  • Lead medium to high-impact projects and provide expert-level guidance.
  • Collaborate with leadership to align technical goals with business strategy.
  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation in engineering processes.
  • Mentor Senior and Junior engineers and contributes to talent development.
  • Interprets customer specifications to define requirements for mechanical designs.
  • Performs first principal analysis related to appropriate aspects of mechanical design.
  • Provides technical leadership to peers, Jr Engineers, and Co-Ops.
  • Advanced proficiency with 3D CAD system to create mechanical design and drawings.
  • Develops detailed fabrication and assembly drawings and performs tolerance analysis.
  • Analyzes mechanical engineering data using computer-aided analysis and classical techniques to verify that designs meet requirements.
  • Strong technical and analytical ability to troubleshoot and resolve design & processing issues.
  • Collects, analyzes and interprets data to support and generate solutions.
  • Develops & execute design verification protocols and technical reports.
  • Familiarity with thermal and structural analysis.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ingenuity and creativity, interpersonal and project management skills.
  • Work with internal and external resources on fabrication, inspection, and testing of new product parts and assemblies.
  • Develop & debug prototype tooling / equipment and processes.
  • Develop test methods and fixtures to verify that designs meet specification requirements such as environmental, regulatory and safety requirements.
  • Develops prototype hardware using internal manufacturing resources as well as outside vendors for design evaluation.
  • Coordinates the mechanical design schedule with the electrical engineering and software engineering efforts.
  • Formulate plans & methods to accomplish assignments.
  • Works independently and prioritizes assigned tasks.
  • Coordinates the project plan, budget, and timelines.
  • Train technicians and operators on new process techniques.
