About The Position

As a IT Staff Engineer I, you will work in a mid-level role with proficiency in one or more key products and will be responsible for managing and supporting the organization's IT infrastructure or applications. You will identify development and support needs as well as taking on design responsibilities supporting project tasks. As a IT Staff Engineer I, you are expected to possess or acquire expertise in contemporary automation and integration techniques, Cloud-First design patterns and frameworks, as well as advanced critical thinking skills. Also, you will facilitate dialogue and activities, while also ensuring team collaboration. Take assignments that can be worked on individually without supervision and manage work effort from concept to completion. Design and implement engineering principles aimed at reliability practices and sound recovery procedures. Design transaction specific application performance monitoring metrics that can be captured and passed to business partners. In Addition, will layout reference architecture and visual diagrams that capture work. Develop, implement and support ETL and data pipeline capabilities considering how data is created, transformed, stored, archived, analyzed, and shared across Western Alliance Bank and our partners. Perform data exploration and data profiling with tools such as Databricks. Apply recommendations and designs from Data Governance and Enterprise Architecture to data engineering solutions. Collaborate with product owners and business stakeholders to gain a working understanding of business requirements and operational processes. Participate in testing, deployment, and production support activities.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of related experience in Development, Data Engineering, or similar field.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or data engineering or related field.
  • Expert level knowledge in Python and related libraries and Object-Oriented programming.
  • Proven experience with data engineering specifically in ETL concepts and processes.
  • Experience with enterprise data warehouse capabilities and database principles.
  • Experience implementing and supporting cloud data solutions, preferably Azure.
  • Experience working within Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) solutions.
  • Strong experience with at least one RDBMS and query language such as T-SQL, PL/SQL, Spark SQL.
  • Experience in creating and adhering to conceptual, logical, and physical data design.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of general Financial Services or Banking.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable regulatory and legal compliance obligations.
  • Advanced proven experience in leading cross-functional teams and managing multiple projects.

  • Experience with pipeline development and leveraging Azure DevOps.
  • Intermediate to advanced ability to see the big picture and align projects with organizational goals.
  • Capable of leading and motivating cross-functional teams.
  • Expertise in resolving conflicts and addressing challenges.
  • Proficient in governance patterns tied to intake, technical reviews, and architectural compliance.
  • Experience integrating with data quality, data catalog and data lineage tools.
