About The Position

The Staff Engineer, Electrical will provide design, diagnostic, problem solving, training and consulting services for the maintenance, replacement and the new application of electrical/electronic control systems used in the engine test lab. Support calibrations, preventative maintenance, and quality management programs for engine test lab.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree from an electrical engineering discipline from an ABET accredited engineering OR engineering technology program
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitudes are required.
  • Strong knowledge of data acquisition systems, dynamometers, PLC’s, and emissions testing equipment is desired.
  • Knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, and servo systems is desired.
  • 6-12 years of experience working in a similar role
  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills by clearly conveying complex technical information in a manner tailored to the audience.
  • Actively shares ideas and recommendations with peers, engineers, and laboratory supervisors to foster collaboration and understanding, while consistently practicing active listening to ensure accurate interpretation and constructive dialogue.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical dynamometer support within Lab Facilities.
  • Support of basic set up, operation and troubleshooting as necessary of high-speed data acquisition and combustion analysis software i.e. A&D, AVL, and/or EFI calibration software
  • Troubleshooting of dynamometer programs and/or electrical systems
  • Supply training when required for Technicians on specific systems
  • Utilizing SAE J1939 protocol to control and/or collect data with CAN
  • Ability to upgrade, troubleshoot and provide technical support for the following programs: A&D Technology’s dynamometer software, AVL IndiCom and Concerto software, Enorise Morphee dynamometer software, MATLAB, FactoryTalk (Rockwell Automation) and Ignition (ECS Solutions Inc)
  • Provide technical support for managing data in SQL servers, SharePoint, OneDrive, network drives and Oracle
  • Provide technical support within Lab Facilities for AC and DC electronic drives, PLC's, and control systems.
  • Supply training when required for Technicians on specific systems.
  • Utilize experience to identify opportunities that increase the Lab’s capabilities and/or accuracy while maintaining focus on controlling costs and reducing test duration timing. This includes replacement of obsolete technology for which replacement parts are difficult or impossible to obtain.
  • Perform advanced preventative maintenance, and calibrations as detailed in lab Maintenance and Quality Management documentation.
  • Actively makes process or equipment improvement recommendations based on personal observations, comparison with processes utilized by other REHLKO divisions or outside companies, and cumulative knowledge.
  • Recommend innovative or significant enhancements of test systems or procedures.
  • Trouble shoot electrical, electronic, and mechanical problems of a complex nature pertaining to lab equipment and facilities with minimal support.
  • Actively identify needs, seek proper approvals, and qualify new and revised maintenance methods and lab systems.
  • Follow established best practices and modifies practice as situationally appropriate.
  • Make decisions for determining course of action for goal completion independently.
  • Observe and document results and procedures of work performed, including updating drawing and schematics, filing calibration reports, updating maintenance logs, and closing work requests.
  • Assist in managing all lab equipment requiring calibration or requiring repair. This includes scheduling, tracking and coordinating calibration activities both onsite and outside suppliers.
  • Generate/review LOTO procedures for existing and new equipment.
  • Analyze results of calibrations to determine deviations from expected standards and guidelines.
  • Draw complex evaluation conclusions and provide detailed reports of results to supervisor.
  • Multi-task and prioritizes daily workload with minimal guidance.
  • Anticipate needs and take appropriate action meet requested timelines.
  • Planning horizon extends through large scope project completion.
  • Ensure adherence to applicable product compliance requirements including but not limited to the Clean Air Act, California Code of Regulations and California Health and Safety Code.
