Role reports to: Sr Manager, Engineering & Automation Location: North America, United States, Pennsylvania, Fort Washington Work Location: Fully Onsite What you will do The Staff Engineer, Automation will provide technical leadership and automation support to the manufacturing plant. The position will be responsible for managing and delivering automation projects from concept to post implementation including developing project scope, user requirements, appropriation requests, time-lines and budgets, qualification plans, approving equipment specifications and documentation to meet current company, corporate and government requirements. Managing the purchase, installation and start-up of equipment and system including adherence to compliance, cost and time schedule requirements.

  • Manages all tasks based on the responsibilities for project phases (Concept, Planning, Design, Implementation and Post-Implementation). This person will also manage the project implementation team including external consultants and contractors. Accountable for achievement of project milestones
  • Provide technical support for automation and digitalization projects including system design and development, capital project execution, manufacturing technical support, new product introduction and process improvement initiatives with responsibility for assisting with project execution and site stakeholder alignment.
  • Manages, plans and executes automation assignments generally involving complex projects.
  • Performs complex assignments often requiring development of new or improved products/processes/techniques
  • Tracks and trends data, identifies and implements process improvements to improve business measures.
  • Optimizes current processes and manufacturing, packaging and utilities equipment to provide measurable improvements in step change, productivity, quality, cost, and safety results.
  • Assess project issues and develop resolutions to meet productivity, quality and client satisfaction, goals and objectives.
  • Prepares or approves technical memos, reports, analyzes and summarizes data, and recommends conclusions based on engineering/technical rationale.
  • Reviews and approves reports and confirms conclusions are based on engineering/technical rationale.
  • Responsible for the technical support for manufacturing, packaging and utilities equipment troubleshooting and quality investigations. Participates in development of short- and long-term solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Prepares or approves Automation Periodic Review.
  • Writes or approves SOPs based on area of experience and training.
  • Provides technical advice on SOP’s, policies, and procedures
  • Manage investigations, CAPAs, and APR data collection, analysis, and review/approval.
  • Leads a technical team or primary technical lead on cross functional teams. Ability to lead and coordinate project activities, resources, etc.
  • Assist with reviews and approval of Computer System Validation documentation as required
  • Develops, delivers and maintains automation project schedules, resources and budgets for assigned projects to meet project objectives on time and within budget.
  • Develops and maintain roadmaps of the Automation systems ensuring compliance with the site Digitalization strategy and cybersecurity requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent) in Engineering or Computer Science is required. Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science or any other engineering discipline is required.
  • 6 + years experience is required
  • Relevant experience in engineering, automation, technical and/or operations experience is required.
  • Knowledge of cGMP's and Good Documentation Practices is required.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, including packaging equipment, utilities and automation systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities across technical and non-technical audiences, including technical writing and documentation
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for reporting, analysis, and presentations.
  • Experience in equipment installation, troubleshooting, commission, qualification and validation.
  • Experience with a pharmaceutical or consumer products company is preferred.
  • Experience working in FDA/cGMP compliance environment preferred.
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Certification preferred.
  • Professional (PE) license is preferred
  • Project Management preferred.
