About The Position

As the Staff Engineer with the Retail Media Network Ad Engineering, you will lead the technical development and technical strategy of the company's self-service ad platform. This role is responsible for collaborating closely with product, marketing, data science, and external partners to build and optimize a robust, scalable, and innovative ad platform. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in ad technology, programmatic advertising with the ability to drive technical initiatives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. You will be a technical leader across multiple products or systems and recognized as an expert and thought leader in this area as well considered a mentor and teacher across squads with the ability to influence outside their direct teams. This role is hybrid, which means you will work some days on site at a Best Buy location and some days virtually from home or other non-Best Buy location. The specific work arrangements vary by role and team. The recruiter or hiring manager will provide more details during the hiring process. For this role, you must be located within a drivable distance to our office in Richfield, Minnesota.

Requirements

  • 5 or more years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree OR equivalent relevant professional experience
  • 5 or more years of programming or scripting language experience (Java/Spring, React, Next.js, Typescript)
  • 3 or more years of experience building custom systems, cloud environments (GCP & AWS) and architecture design in large environments
  • 3 or more years of experience with systems like Postgres, Kafka, Redis, Grafana, Dynatrace and Kubernetes
  • 1 or more years of experience with formal or informal Leadership

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • 7 or more years of relevant professional experience
  • 5 or more years of experience with Cloud Platforms (AWC, GCP)
  • 3+ years Experience with Retail Media Networks, Ad Engineering, Ad Servers or Demand Partners
  • 5 years experience with engineering custom solutions using modern languages, cloud technologies and SDLC practices and tools.
  • Experience working in retail, marketing, or similar technologies and related areas
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and modern software development practices including Scrum and Kanban

Responsibilities

  • Influence and communicate architectural decisions across multiple systems, balancing technical, analytical, and product considerations
  • Solve complex engineering challenges, including debugging, triaging, incident response, and reverse-engineering
  • Identify and recommend improvements in the SDLC, support, reliability, and monitoring through tools and standards
  • Maintain high standards of system quality, performance, and reliability, ensuring robust custom-built solutions
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, applying best practices to enhance platform capabilities
  • Build and nurture strong technical and business relationships, expanding influence across teams and peers
