As a Staff Electrical Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for defining, decomposing, and realizing feature, function, interface and implementation requirements and associated integration efforts for Ford’s next-generation exterior and interior lighting systems and controls. You will lead the end-to-end integration of these systems, collaborating with cross-functional teams to support product design, vehicle behavior definition, prototype bring-up, and debugging. Requirements

  • B.S in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent
  • 6+ years of experience working on complex electrical systems or electronics designs, specifically lighting and other body controls systems
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals and ability to apply them to automotive concepts
  • Experience with requirements capture in requirements management software platforms (JAMA, etc.)
  • Experience with creating and modifying network interface description files, and proficiency with vehicle network protocols such as CAN, LIN, and Automotive Ethernet
  • Proven experience in systems development, electrical/functional architecture, functional safety, and complex system integration, including automotive regulatory standards
  • Strong debugging and diagnostic skills across electrical, mechanical, and functional/software domains.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering or related fields
  • Hands-on experience with electrical test equipment (oscilloscopes, DMMs, signal generators, power supplies, etc.)
  • Experience with hardware definition and integration of chassis and/or thermal electronics
  • Experience with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA)
  • Experience with electrical / electro-mechanical devices involving networked microcontrollers and embedded software

Responsibilities

  • Conduct functional architecture investigations and execute trade studies to optimize lighting systems design strategies for cost and performance
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver and maintain robust lighting subsystem functional boundary diagrams and interface specifications
  • Drive hardware specification development for lighting control units and related components, collaborating with device owners and supply chain to source components
  • Own and approve Device Transmittals for lighting components, ensuring logical schematics and hardware interfaces are designed to meet all component requirements
  • Lead network interface development for lighting systems, collaborating with software and systems team to deliver network artifacts
  • Lead the feature and function development of systems related to exterior and interior lighting, from feature level to implementation, including function boundary diagrams and interface specifications.
  • Decompose and allocate vehicle performance attributes across supporting functions
  • Develop and mature exterior and interior lighting functional specifications, ensuring alignment with overall vehicle homologation and regulatory requirements.
  • Authoring and releasing feature verification methods including diagnostics
  • Verify feature and electrical performance through system level testing and validation
  • Preparing feature systems and integration TGW, FMVSS and internal customer feedback analysis
