About The Position

We are seeking a skilled Staff Electrical Manufacturing Engineer to play a key role in developing and sustaining innovative medical technologies. This individual will collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance existing and new medical devices, ensuring product reliability, manufacturability, and compliance with regulatory standards. In collaboration with a tightly knit, innovative, and dynamic R D team, you can see your work come to life as it is manufactured on-site and used in our clinic! Working within a diverse range of engineering disciplines including laser physics, power and digital electronics, mechanics, software, and biomedicine, you will have a direct impact on future Cutera devices and thereby influence the future of dermatology.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • 7+ years of experience in related roles, with expertise in troubleshooting electro-optical and electromechanical systems.
  • Strong proficiency in analog and digital circuit design, including system- and board-level debugging and testing.
  • Solid understanding of PCBA design, manufacturing processes, and test equipment.
  • Experience with ISO 13485, 21 CFR Part 820, and regulatory compliance preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Strong documentation, communication, and collaboration abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams (electrical, mechanical, optical, biomedical, and software engineers).

Responsibilities

  • Lead electronics projects within the Sustaining Engineering team, focusing on new features, quality improvements, cost reductions, and risk mitigation (e.g., supply chain issues, component obsolescence).
  • Participate in the full product lifecycle, from New Product Introduction (NPI) to end-of-life planning, ensuring compliance with Class II medical device documentation requirements.
  • Provide Design for Manufacturability (DFM) analysis for printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) in new product designs.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Operations, and Engineering teams to troubleshoot issues, support product launches, and transition manufacturing activities.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of technical issues and develop corrective actions for products and processes at contract manufacturers and suppliers.
  • Support the production line by resolving issues and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop clear and effective work instructions for production processes.
  • Participate in regulatory compliance testing to ensure adherence to industry standards.
  • Plan and execute End-of-Life (EOL) strategies for major electrical components in existing products.
  • Identify, qualify, and integrate alternative components into existing designs.
  • Develop hardware improvements to enhance product reliability and performance.
  • Implement process improvements for design and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Create and update board designs and product assemblies.
  • Define and execute test plans to validate product performance.
  • Generate and manage Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
  • Develop expertise in product domain and contribute to knowledge sharing across the company.
  • Support Service Depot repairs and maintain service spare inventory.
  • Other duties as assigned.
