Staff Electrical Engineer- Spot
About The Position
Boston Dynamic's Spot Electrical Engineering Team is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to continually advance our cutting edge quadruped mobile robot platform. In this role, you'll perform a mix of electrical system prototyping, from scratch circuit board/system design, design iteration, and support. The ideal candidate will possess a broad electrical engineering background, be experienced in new product development, and enjoy being challenged by a dynamic set of projects. Requirements
- At least a BS in electrical engineering, computer engineering, robotics, or closely related field
- 5+ years of directly related work experience
- Strong electrical engineering fundamentals spanning a range of competencies (e.g. digital, power, analog, RF)
- Embedded computing and/or robotics systems knowledge
- Demonstrated ability to debug to root cause complex electrical issues
- Experience with schematic capture and eCAD software (Altium preferred)
- Familiarity with PLM software (e.g. Arena)
- Basic Linux skills
Nice To Haves
- Knowledge of functional safety concepts and how they apply to robotics
- Experience simulating high-speed serial data links (e.g. PCIe, 10GigE, etc.)
- Software/firmware development skills in C/C++, Python, Verilog/VHDL, and/or LabView
Responsibilities
- Contribute to new product development within the Spot ecosystem
- Develop (document, design, simulate, test, support) digital, power, and/or mixed signal circuit boards
- Oversee printed circuit board (PCB) CAD layout and routing
- Triage, troubleshoot, and diagnose robot electrical failures to root cause
- Author technical documentation such as specifications, schematics, test plans, and reports
- Lead development of robot subsystems from concept through volume manufacturing, as required
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, manufacturing, regulatory compliance, and test teams
- Lead and participate in design reviews
- Author Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)
- Contribute to continuous improvement activities such as authoring process documentation
