About The Position

The Staff Electrical Engineer will plan and execute development studies for development of new products or support of a current product. The Staff Electrical Engineer plans and conducts design/development engineering assignments generally involving projects of major magnitude and scope, estimates human resource needs and schedules work to meet completion dates and technical specifications and may coordinate and direct Engineers, Designers and Technicians assigned to projects. This individual will be involved with developing proposals and cost estimates, evaluating progress and results and recommending major changes in procedures or objectives. S/he will focus on design/development engineering assignments focused on electrical and electromechanical systems used in medical devices.

Responsibilities

  • Requires and applies broad knowledge in the electrical design specialty area and good knowledge of principles and practices of related specialties in the development and improvement of new or existing products and associated processes.
  • Plans and conducts design and development engineering assignments involving projects of major magnitude and scope.
  • Estimates resource needs.
  • Technically supervises or coordinates the work of Engineers and Technicians and others who assist in specific assignments.
  • Delivers electrical designs from concept, to requirements, to design, to verification and validation, and to design transfer.
  • Generates system or subsystem requirements.
  • Generates electrical schematics and multilayer PCB designs.
  • Generates electrical cable/harness designs.
  • Specifies electronic components and power supplies.
  • Evaluates progress and results against goals and objectives.
  • Provides technical training and guidance to key stakeholders.
  • Generates and executes test protocols.
  • Generates written reports.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of concepts, designs, drawings, processes, test methods, data analysis and conclusions or rationales.
  • Performs Failure Analyses and Investigation reports.
  • Works out proposals and cost estimates of project related costs.
  • Leads program workstreams through project life cycle.
  • Responsible for communicating business related issues or opportunities to next management level
  • Performs other duties assigned as needed
  • Creation of multilevel Bills of Materials
  • Conducts technical assessments and design reviews.
  • Schedules work to meet completion dates and technical specifications.
  • Works independently and in cross-functional teams (both internal and external).
  • Operates with latitude and has demonstrated leadership abilities.
  • Collaborates with Software Development Engineers and various other functions outside of R&D, both internal and external.
  • Provides technical support for outside suppliers, vendors, and/or consultants as required, inclusive of supplier visits and identification / implementation of process improvements.
  • May coordinate testing with outside testing laboratories (NRTL testing, environmental testing, HALT testing, etc)
  • Uses general and complex engineering test equipment.
  • Uses general hand and laboratory tools.
  • Performs experiments or troubleshoots designs in laboratories.
  • Understands electrical safety and ESD.
  • Completes assigned role based training.
  • Applies Fortive Business Systems tools, as required.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned by the manager of the role.
  • Ensure implementation of safety and environmental procedures, guidelines and standards.
  • Evaluate employee compliance and enforce established safety and environmental procedures and rules.
  • Create a safe work area environment, recognize safe activities, and reward good safety performance.
  • Provide training to employees when: Hired Transferred New substances, processes, procedures or equipment are introduced to the workplace and represent a new hazard
  • Measure safety performance and hold persons accountable for activities and results.
  • Ensure that incidents are investigated to determine root cause, and that corrective actions are taken.
  • Ensure employees wear required protective equipment.
  • Ensure EHS inspections are conducted monthly and corrective actions are implemented.
  • All employees have a duty to comply with applicable laws, regulations, standards, ASP policies and procedures.
