The Staff EHS Specialist provides technical expertise in Environmental Health, ISO 14001 management systems, and general industry safety requirements. The role serves as a subject matter expert (SME), supporting the establishment and maintenance of robust processes to identify, evaluate, control, and minimize workplace risk. It also leads and implements environmental and safety program components, including compliance reporting, regulatory visits, and training.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Engineering.
  • 6–8 years of experience working with EQB, EPA, DRNA, DOH, PRASA, ISO 14001, corporate audits, and related federal agencies, preferably within the medical device or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Bilingual: English and Spanish.
  • Strong knowledge of GMP, environmental and safety regulations, and statistical analysis.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to lead training, conduct audits, and manage multiple EHS programs.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with GMP, company policies, and EHS requirements.
  • Adhere to all procedures applicable to the role and exercise the highest integrity.
  • Promptly identify and report deviations or unsafe conditions.
  • Promote a culture of safety, employee involvement, and first-time-right behavior.
  • Ensure completion of all required trainings before task execution.
  • Comply with all Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) policies, training, and ISO 14001 requirements.
  • Maintain a safe workspace, ensuring adherence to PPE, fire protection, and incident/spill reporting procedures.
  • Support and promote environmental initiatives such as waste reduction, recycling, and energy-saving programs.
  • Participate in safety committees, audits, and corrective action plans.
  • Report incidents and near-misses and ensure timely corrective actions.
  • Monitor EHS performance metrics and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and implement safety and environmental programs aligned with corporate and regulatory standards.
  • Prepare and submit air permit reports (monthly, semiannual, annual) per regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor air permit limits and assess process changes to ensure compliance.
  • Manage sustainability data collection and reporting.
  • Evaluate and document environmental impacts of new projects, collaborating with area owners and regulatory agencies.
  • Serve as site SME for ISO 14001 system maintenance, waste management, water/wastewater programs, and energy initiatives.
  • Coordinate and conduct internal audits, ensuring effective follow-up and compliance documentation.
  • Lead environmental regulatory reporting: SARA 311/312/313, wastewater, stormwater, and drinking water reports.
  • Prepare and submit new and renewal environmental permits.
  • Manage waste management programs, manifests, and compliance tracking systems.
  • Support external environmental audits (EQB, EPA, DRNA, DOH, DOT, PRASA, ISO 14001, Corporate).
  • Provide technical guidance and training on EHS topics across site teams.
  • Participate in site master plan projects, ensuring EHS integration into design and implementation.
