About The Position

The Staff Development Specialist position at Durham County is designed to coordinate, organize, and facilitate training for county staff. This role involves collaborating with professional trainers and internal stakeholders to develop training plans that align with strategic goals and initiatives. The position operates under general supervision, allowing for independent development of work methods and sequences.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university and two years of experience in a human service program, counseling, training, or in an administrative support role in a staff development and training office; or graduation from high school and five years of progressively responsible experience directly related to training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Considerable knowledge of principles and techniques of training.
  • Considerable knowledge of capabilities and uses of audiovisual aids and other training tools and resources.
  • Considerable knowledge and experience in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and OneDrive.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate training activities, evaluate student learning, and maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in written form.
  • Ability to work effectively with others and use sound judgment in applying policies, procedures, and training principles.

Responsibilities

  • Research, analyze, and interpret Federal, State, and County policy and procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Create training plans that align, inform, and inspire employees in support of strategic goals and MFR initiatives.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing for staff programs.
  • Assist with quality assurance initiatives including program structure, forms, and guidelines.
  • Design and implement a variety of developmental initiatives, action plans, programs, and training materials.
  • Train and supervise new employees through the New Hire process and provide refresher training for existing staff.
  • Provide policy and system support for new and existing staff.
  • Facilitate agency-wide compliance and soft skills training (HIPAA, Civil Rights, Security Awareness, etc.).
  • Perform related tasks as required.
