Major Duties and Responsibilities Demonstrates clinical expertise in executing the nursing process and directs staff in its application. In collaboration with the clinical leadership, evaluate acuity levels, equipment and supplies to facilitate efficient nursing care. Encourages and participates in the problem-solving approach to difficult and/or complex elder and employee’s situations and recommend appropriate resources as necessary. Participates in reviewing, revising policies and procedures annually and as needed. Conducts Quality Assurance monitoring as scheduled and participates in problem identification and solutions, shares results at Quality and Nurse and at Nurse Aide meetings. Counsels and teaches staff concerning work performance and provides appropriate documentation. Does yearly competencies on Nurses and CNAs. Assumes responsibility for the quality of the educational program according to the needs of the facility in planning, directing, implementing, coordinating and evaluating the outcome and in compliance with the Federal and State regulations (Includes required in-services facility wide) Responsible for orientation of employees and employee health and safety program, in collaboration with the Human Resources Department. In collaboration with the Human Resources Department responsible for coordinating Nurse Aides for the written/clinical test according to state requirements on a timely basis. Responsible for monthly educational programs for RSAs and keeps records for meeting the 12 hours of in-service per year requirement. Notifies those who require completion and schedule them on a timely basis. Plans independently and in conjunction with other’s the Nurse educational programs on a monthly basis including current concerns. Leadership development is included. Maintains in-service records. Responsible for education of new policies and procedures. Responsible for nurse and Nurse Aide Competency testing. Including reviewing CPR certifications renewals for nurses. Reviews and in-services the Fire/Safety procedures and revises as needed. Conducts elopement code drills regularly. Monitors, maintains and updates materials for the Learning center. Act as backup to Nurse Leader and to admission and discharge process. Plans, develops, organizes, implements, and directs nursing services for residents on the households assigned. Ensures compliance with current applicable federal, state and local regulations and facility policies and procedures. Reviews complaints and grievances made or filed by staff. Makes appropriate reports to the Director of Nursing as required or as necessary. Encourages staff to attend and participate in outside training programs and schedules times as appropriate. Conduct walking round audits with the floor staff. Reinforce education information and ensure information is integrated into the daily routine of floor staff. Review nurses’ notes to ensure they are informative and descriptive of the nursing care being provided, that they reflect the resident’s response to the care, and that such care is provided in accordance with the resident’s wishes. Assist with admissions and discharges including but not limited to, putting in orders, DME, completing assessments, and home health. Complete admission audits. Prepares necessary reports, attends and participates in daily morning clinical meetings. Communicates with medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department heads. Subject to call back for emergency situations and being in an on-call nursing rotation. Subject to work beyond scheduled working hours and on weekends and holidays as needed.

Requirements

  • A nursing degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Current State of Michigan Registered Nurse License required.
  • Current CPR Certification required.
  • Certification as a CNA trainer.
  • Excellent customer service and organizational skills.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of management level experience in long-term care, restorative, or geriatric setting required.
  • Pass a Criminal Background Check, Pre-employment Physical and Drug Screen.
  • Must also meet state requirements for relevant licensures or certifications and have no disciplinary action in effect against professional license.

Nice To Haves

  • Gerontology certification is preferred.
