Staff Product Development Engineer IV (Thermal Systems) – Plymouth, MN Make your mark at the world’s largest HVAC company Daikin Applied is seeking a Staff Product Development Engineer IV (Thermal Systems) who will lead new technology development and component architecture ownership in the Refrigeration Subsystem Location: Plymouth, MN What you will do: Lead New Technology Introduction of refrigeration subsystem-based solutions into all DAA product applications using engineering fundamentals such as heat transfer, fluid dynamics and mechanical analysis. Leading and contributing to the technology and design in the following areas: Vapor compression refrigeration systems and cycles Refrigerants and lubricants Refrigerant flow control devices Positive displacement compressors (i.e. scroll and screw) Heat exchanger technology (shell and tube, microchannel, round tube plate fin, braze plate, etc.) sizing and performance analysis Development and ownership of a product-based modular strategy for components withing the refrigeration subsystems (all components and modules containing refrigerant). This will include working with the New Product Implementation (NPI) engineers throughout the organization to ensure the relevant subsystems are designed with appropriate requirements, interfaces, and interactions to achieve specific chiller functions Provide technical leadership as an internal Subject Matter Expert in Thermal Systems Lead and mentor junior engineering team members in the development of Thermal System competency Support cross-functional groups to effectively deploy new technologies through smooth transitions into production Participate in design reviews to ensure best design practices are followed and alert the product team to any risks associated with the design of Thermal Systems and their components Represent the company's interests in external technical groups (i.e. ASHRAE, ASME, University consortia, etc. What’s in it for you: The ability to make an impact and shape your career with a company that is passionate about growth The support of an organization that believes it is vital to include and engage diverse people, perspectives, and ideas to achieve our best Minimum Qualifications: Minimum 4-year degree in engineering or related technical field and minimum 8 years of engineering experience Experience with the thermodynamics of rooftop or split air-conditioners, chiller systems, heat transfer, pressure vessel design, vapor compression technology and refrigerant systems performance analysis Excellent communication and organizational skills Strong interpersonal skills and a “team-player” mentality Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Candidate must be driven with a high attention to detail Preferred Qualifications: MS or PhD degree in engineering or a related technical field Benefits: Daikin Applied offers the following benefits for this position, subject to applicable eligibility requirements: Multiple medical insurance plan options + dental and vision insurance 401K retirement plan with employer contributions matching 100% of the first 3% of employee contributions and 50% on the next 2% of employee contributions Company provided life insurance + optional employee paid voluntary life insurance, dependent life coverage and voluntary accident coverage Short-term and long-term disability 3 weeks of paid time off for new employees + 11 company paid holidays Vacation accrues on a monthly basis, unless applicable federal, state and local law requires a faster accrual Paid sick time in accordance of the federal, state and local law Paid parental leave and tuition reimbursement after 6 months of continuous service The typical annual base salary for this position ranges from $109,100 - $183,200 (+ 15% bonus) in Minnesota. The range displayed represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade which this position falls. Requirements
