About The Position

PLEASE NOTE: THIS POSITION IS FOR THE DIVISION/WORK UNIT AT THE OFFICE OF SPECIAL INVESTIGATIONS, MANHATTAN BORO OFFICE (DCP), AND NOT BROOKLYN BORO OFFICE (DCP). THIS POSITION IS ONLY OPEN TO INTERNAL ACS APPLICANTS. THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE OFFERED A SALARY OF $94,276 THIS POSITION IS OPEN ONLY TO EMPLOYEES CURRENTLY SERVING IN THE PERMANENT CIVIL SERVICE TITLE OF CHILD WELFARE SPECIALIST SUPERVISOR. The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services, and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement and programs for youth in the community. The Division of Child Protection (DCP) is charged with investigating all allegations of child abuse and maltreatment that the city receives from the New York Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment. The Division of Child Protection encompasses Child Protective and Placement Services. Child Protective Services include the Child Protective Borough Offices, Family Preservation and Family Services Unit, Emergency Children’s Services (ECS), and the Office of Special Investigations (OSI). In each DCP borough and program office, an Administration or “Admin” team provides a catalog of critical support functions, enabling child protective staff to focus on supporting our children and families. Under the supervision of a Deputy Director for Administration with wide latitude for the use of judgment and independent decision making, the Staff Development Coordinator (SDC) will be responsible for the following:

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and 30 semester credits toward a Master of Social Work or a graduate degree in a related field, and at least eighteen months of child welfare casework experience.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and oversees new CPS trainee assignments to Training Units for the On-the-Job Training (OJT)
  • Coordinates specialized training opportunities for CPS trainees in collaboration with Training Unit Supervisors
  • Arranges and schedules mandatory and non-mandatory trainings
  • Conducts in-house trainings to address the needs of the borough and ensure knowledge of and compliance with ACS and divisional policies and procedures
  • Works with the clinical consultation team to coordinate and ensure the delivery of specialized trainings in Domestic Violence, Substance Abuse and Mental Health
  • Attends interdisciplinary team meetings and addresses staff issues regarding professional development
  • Reviews specific material from the JSA Core Phase I course with the CPS trainees
  • Liaises with JSA practice instructors regarding strengths and weaknesses of individual CPS trainees and communicate that information to the CPS training supervisors
  • Communicates with the training supervisors and learn what extra training needs are to be provided to the trainees; facilitates trainings; identifies topics the trainees need reinforced
  • Coordinates training to be given by other trainers/professionals
  • Coordinates trainings that all CPS trainees receive during their training unit phase (e.g., training from the clinical consultation team)
  • Communicates to the JSA on the progress of CPS trainees
  • SDC may serve as interviewers at CPS Hiring Pools
