About The Position

Highland Health & Rehabilitation is a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility with 44-bed skilled, and we are dedicated to providing exceptional care. We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Staff Development Coordinator / Infection Control Preventionist Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic team in skilled nursing. As the SDC/IP (RN), you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and evaluating staff education programs while overseeing the facility’s Infection Prevention and Control Program (ICP). This role ensures staff are trained and competent to provide safe, high-quality care while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and company regulations related to infection prevention, employee health, and clinical education. This position partners closely with nursing leadership, department managers, and interdisciplinary teams to promote best practices in infection control, clinical competency, and regulatory compliance within the skilled nursing facility.

Requirements

  • Current Washington RN license and degree in nursing from an accredited school
  • Valid CPR certification
  • At least three (3) years of nursing experience, including one (1) year in long-term care
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of CDC and CMS infection control standards
  • Current with state Continuing Education (CE) requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Infection Control (CIC) preferred
  • Experience in staff education or clinical instruction preferred
  • Infection Preventionist experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and implement ongoing education and training programs for licensed nurses, nursing assistants, and ancillary staff
  • Develop and maintain monthly and annual education calendars
  • Conduct general orientation for new hires and clinical orientation for nursing staff
  • Oversee competency evaluations for new and existing clinical employees
  • Provide hands-on instruction, classroom education, and on-the-job coaching
  • Ensure staff education programs meet or exceed state, federal, and company requirements
  • Conduct needs assessments using survey history, performance trends, competency evaluations, and leadership input
  • Ensure staff maintain required certifications and continuing education requirements
  • Coordinate CPR training and certification for staff
  • Provide additional training or education related to performance improvement initiatives
  • Coordinate clinical student rotations and facility-based training programs
  • Lead and manage the facility’s Infection Prevention and Control Program (ICP)
  • Chair the Infection Control Committee and coordinate infection prevention initiatives
  • Conduct infection surveillance and track infection trends among residents and staff
  • Investigate infection outbreaks and implement containment strategies
  • Ensure adherence to hand hygiene, standard precautions, and infection control protocols
  • Maintain infection surveillance documentation in accordance with state, federal, and company regulations
  • Serve as the liaison with state and local public health agencies regarding reportable infections and outbreaks
  • Provide infection control education to staff based on trends, outbreaks, or regulatory updates
  • Monitor infection trends and report findings to Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) committees
  • Collaborate with leadership to develop annual infection prevention goals and action plans
