Staff Developer Experience Engineer

AlphaSense
76d$150,000 - $225,000

About The Position

Our Core Developer Experience (Core DX) team is expanding its US time zone footprint, and we are looking for a highly experienced Staff Engineer to help shape the future of developer productivity and engineering experience at AlphaSense. CoreDX is one of two teams in our broader Developer Experience (DevEx) mission, alongside Cloud DX. Together, these teams share a united vision: building a seamless, scalable developer experience that eliminates friction and accelerates delivery. CoreDX focuses on the inner development loop — feature flags, local development tools, QA automation platform, documentation systems, engineering standards, and automation used by the entire engineering organization at AlphaSense. You will also collaborate closely with Cloud DX, which owns environments, CI/CD, and infrastructure, to deliver a unified developer experience across the full software lifecycle. An essential part of this mission is introducing an AI-first developer experience: integrating AI across the end-to-end workflow — from test automation and flakiness detection, to automated changelogs and documentation flows, to developer insights and support requests. Rather than layering AI on top, we are embedding it directly into the developer stack so that reliability, speed, and quality continuously improve as a natural part of how engineers work every day. As a Staff Engineer, you will act as a force multiplier — mentoring engineers, influencing strategic direction, and setting the bar for developer experience across the company.

Requirements

  • 8+ years in software engineering, platform engineering, or DevEx roles, with 3+ years in a Senior+/Tech Lead capacity.
  • Strong experience building developer platforms, frameworks, or productivity tooling.
  • Proficiency in at least one major programming language (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript).
  • Experience with or strong interest in AI-driven developer tooling (e.g., automated documentation, test generation, developer insights, support systems).
  • Exposure to Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs) such as Backstage, Port.io, or similar.
  • Hands-on experience with feature flag platforms and rollout strategies (e.g., LaunchDarkly, Statsig).
  • Experience driving test automation and code coverage at scale, enabling product teams to own quality.
  • Solid background in CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and developer workflow automation.
  • Proven ability to design and deliver scalable tools and platforms used across large engineering organizations.
  • Excellent collaboration and mentorship skills.

Responsibilities

  • Build Developer Paved Paths: Architect frameworks, SDKs, and self-service tooling that streamline development, testing, deployment, and documentation workflows.
  • Feature Flags & Dev Tooling: Lead the development of feature flagging systems, local dev tools, CLI utilities, scaffolding tools, and inner dev loop automation (linters, pre-commit hooks).
  • Knowledge Flow & Standards: Build systems for documentation automation, onboarding portals, and changelog tooling; define and evolve engineering standards, definition of done, and tech radar. Use AI to reduce manual overhead and keep knowledge always up to date.
  • Developer Insights: Deliver systems that surface actionable DX insights (e.g., surveys, telemetry, workflow analytics) and explore AI-powered insights to continuously improve the developer journey.
  • QA Platform Evolution: Enable and multiply test automation owned directly by software engineers by providing frameworks (e.g., Playwright, Testkube), test reporting (Allure), and performance testing capabilities. Leverage AI to accelerate test creation, reduce flakiness, and improve efficiency across the engineering organization.
  • Common Platforms: Contribute to shared libraries, event bridge, and internal frameworks that unify the developer experience across teams.
  • Mentor & Multiply: Elevate engineers across teams by sharing expertise, driving adoption of best practices, and influencing architectural decisions.
