Position Overview: Electra.aero, a next-gen aerospace technology company, seeks a dynamic and energetic Staff Design Engineer - Propulsion . This role will conduct design, analysis, test, and integration of propulsion systems on Electra's 9-passenger hybrid electric eSTOL (electric short takeoff and landing) aircraft . The ideal candidate will have a strong background in 3D design, analysis, and aircraft integration within a fast-paced, innovative environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience in mechanical engineering on air vehicles with bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (or related STEM discipline).
  • Experience in aerospace component design
  • Understanding of manufacturing methods (machining, sheet metal, composites, 3D printing, injection molding, composite lamination, etc )
  • High competence with, and fluid use of, engineering first principles
  • A strong work ethic and ability to independently meet and lead the areas described by the responsibilities and essential functions
  • Excellent organization and communication skills
  • US Person (Citizen or Green Card)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with mechanical system design and integration for certification to part 23 or 25 standards
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), certification procedures (especially Part 23), and relevant industry standards.
  • Experience in Siemens NX CAD Software and Teamcenter PLM Software
  • Competency in engineering analysis, including structural, thermal, multi-body dynamics, and electrical

Responsibilities

  • Complete designs for mechanical integration of propulsion systems utilizing NX CAD modeling and analysis tools
  • Working with suppliers as necessary to mechanically integrate components into the airframe
  • Knowledge of and experience working with and designing to FAA Part 23 structural requirements and derived ASTM standards
  • Managing physical interfaces between propulsion components and the airframe
  • Complete trade studies on alternative designs to meet requirements and objective functions
  • Performing modeling, analysis and simulation ( eg static and dynamic stress analysis) to verify integrated propulsion components meet performance and safety requirements
  • Preparing and presenting at gated design reviews to demonstrate the adequacy of the design
  • Communicating information about propulsion integration design, requirements, and performance between the design team, management, customer, subcontractors, and vendors
  • Other duties as assigned
