Position Summary: We're seeking a Staff Data Scientist to drive the evolution of SPS's advanced analytics capabilities and lead strategic data science initiatives across the organization. As a senior member of the Data Analytics team, you will guide the development of predictive models, establish data science practices, and collaborate with cross-functional leaders to embed data-driven decision-making into SPS's core operations. This is a high-impact role for a visionary data scientist who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about shaping the future of analytics at SPS.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or advanced analytics.
  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or Engineering.
  • Proven track record of leading data science projects from ideation to production.
  • Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, and modern ML frameworks (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and big data tools (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks).
  • Experience with business Intelligence tools (e.g., PowerBI, Tableau, Qlik)
  • Deep understanding of statistical modeling, predictive analytics, and algorithm development.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor junior team members and lead cross-functional initiatives.
  • Ability to present data insights in variety of methods to meet needs of stakeholders

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a leadership role within a startup or high-growth environment.
  • Experience presenting to executive leadership and driving strategic decisions.
  • Familiarity with MLOps practices and tools for model deployment and monitoring.
  • Prior experience managing others while also performing individual contribution work
  • Ability to independently assess business value and align priority accordingly

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable machine learning models for classification, regression, clustering, and recommendation systems.
  • Develop and optimize data pipelines for feature engineering, model training, and inference using modern cloud and big data technologies.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate algorithms and tools, balancing performance, interpretability, and scalability.
  • Conduct rigorous statistical analysis and hypothesis testing to support experimentation and business decisions.
  • Integrate models into production systems, working closely with data engineers to ensure reliability and performance.
  • Mentor and guide a team of data scientists and analysts, establishing a robust data science practice and a culture of technical excellence.
  • Present insights and recommendations to senior leadership, translating technical findings into strategic actions.
  • Translate business challenges into data science solutions, partnering with stakeholders across product, revenue, technology, finance and HR.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and trends in data science, AI, and analytics.
