Requirements

  • Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a closely related field plus six years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation. Employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a closely related field plus eight years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
  • Experience analyzing massive datasets using SQL and distributed systems (Hive, Presto, or BigQuery) with a focus on performance and data quality (6 years).
  • Experience communicating analytical insights through clear visualizations and narratives using Tableau and Python to influence product strategy (6 years).
  • Experience designing and analyzing controlled experiments and applying rigorous statistical inference to evaluate product and business impact (5 years).
  • Experience in causal modeling techniques such as propensity score matching, difference-in-differences, and instrumental variables to uncover true treatment effects (5 years).
  • Experience building and validating statistical and machine learning models in Python for segmentation, prediction, and behavioral insights (4 years).
  • Experience in development of scalable experimentation framework/platform and measurement pipelines to enable robust and automated impact evaluation (4 years).
  • Experience defining success metrics and KPIs to measure business outcomes, translating statistical findings into actionable recommendations (4 years).
  • Experience in applied causal inference methods to measure marketing effectiveness, including MMM and geo-experiments, to optimize campaign performance (2 years).
  • Experience in statistical modeling for financial risk and anomaly detection problems, ensuring rigor in regulated and high-stakes domains. (2 years).

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end execution of A/B tests and causal analyses to evaluate feature performance, optimize user experience, and guide roadmap decisions.
  • Conduct deep-dive analyses on customer behavior, product usage, and key business trends to identify insights that drive growth and retention.
  • Synthesize findings into clear, compelling data stories for executive audiences, enabling confident, data-informed decisions.
  • Shape priorities, framing key questions, and identifying opportunities where data can influence decision-making and accelerate growth.
  • Define success metrics and develop automated monitoring frameworks that reflect experimentation standards and support scalable decision-making.
  • Collaborate with software and data engineering teams to ensure scalable data pipelines, instrumentation quality, and alignment with PayPal’s long-term data and experimentation strategy.
  • Mentor junior data scientists, fostering technical development, problem-solving excellence, and business acumen across the team.
  • Champion experimentation best practices and help evolve PayPal’s measurement frameworks, platform capabilities, and tooling.
  • Utilize expertise with controlled experimentation—including the design, execution, and analysis of tests that guide product launches, feature iteration, and strategic decision-making.
