About The Position

In general, the duties expected of a staff counselor are to contribute to the mission of the Counseling & Psychological Services Center by participating in all areas of service delivery. Duties of the position include: short-term individual and couples therapy; group therapy; psychological assessment; crisis intervention; consultation; outreach and psychoeducational workshops (sometimes after hours); case management as needed; liaison/consultant relationships with university partners; rotating after hours emergency/crisis on call responsibilities as back-up to ProtoCall. administrative duties and roles based on interest / experience and the needs of the Counseling Center.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, or related field, and eligibility for appropriate licensure in North Carolina.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to maintain licensure for the continuation of the appointment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a university counseling center with a student affairs perspective.
  • Demonstrated interest, skill, and experience in one of the following areas: Interest and experience in providing clinical services and outreach programming to student populations who may be less likely to seek counseling.
  • Interest and experience in using a variety of methods for engaging students to support their mental health, such as innovative outreach and development of self-help resources.
  • Candidates should also be committed to a proactive student development perspective involving an active relationship with the campus community; have demonstrated skills and interest in working with students from a wide range of backgrounds and identities; be team-oriented and collaborative with students, colleagues, and university staff; and have broad generalist clinical skills in assessing and intervening with a wide range of disorders, concerns, and degrees of pathology.
