About The Position

We are currently seeking a Staff Consultant (Metallurgical Engineer) to join our Materials Engineering team. As a key member of this dynamic group, you'll dive into fascinating failure analyses across industries-from petrochemical to medical devices, lead cutting-edge creep testing and remaining life assessments and deliver expert metallurgical and welding consulting that helps clients solve critical challenges and makes a real impact. This role offers the chance to work directly with clients, solve high-stakes engineering problems, and shape the future of industrial reliability and safety. Hands-on involvement with materials selection, welding, inspection, and degradation analysis will allow you to directly influence the integrity, reliability, efficiency, and safety of industrial systems. You'll collaborate with top-tier professionals, mentor rising engineers, and contribute to industry standards and conferences. This is an onsite opportunity located in Cincinnati, OH.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in metallurgical engineering, preferably in the energy or aerospace industries.
  • MS or Ph.D. in Metallurgical/Materials Engineering from an ABET-accredited university, with a strong background in ferrous metallurgy.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Deep knowledge of industry codes and standards (API 6A, API 5L, NACE MR0175/ISO 15156, ASME BPVC Sections VIII and IX, ASME B31, ASME FFS-1/API 579).
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and solve time-sensitive challenges with confidence.
  • Willingness to travel to refineries, power plants, offshore platforms, and industrial shops
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. passport for international travel.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with renewable energy materials (e.g., carbon capture, hydrogen storage) and additive manufacturing is a plus.
  • Forensic investigation and expert witness experience is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct failure analysis of components from petrochemical, consumer product, and medical device industries
  • Perform creep testing and remaining life assessments for petrochemical applications
  • Provide metallurgical and welding consulting across a variety of industries
  • Interface with clients, prepare technical proposals and reports, and lead or contribute to project teams
  • Establish and implement requirements for materials selection, manufacturing, welding, and inspection
  • Identify degradation mechanisms based on process conditions and test data
  • Develop inspection and testing methods to ensure mechanical integrity of industrial systems
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to building successful engineering practice
  • Participate, lead, and present in industry conferences and consensus standards development
