Requirements

  • 1-2 years of experience in psychiatric social work or comparable experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with behaviorally impaired populations or those with addictions.
  • Understanding of addiction treatments, including pharmacology.
  • Cultural competence.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus (Spanish, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Provide social work services including assessment, counseling, consultation, planning, community organization, policy, administration, research, and client-centered advocacy.
  • Deliver clinical social work services under the supervision of a LCSW, including clinical assessment, consultation, psychotherapeutic counseling, and advocacy.
  • Counsel clients at both individual and group levels around emotional and mental health issues.
  • Build and maintain strong rapport with clients in groups and individually.
  • Perform accurate clinical assessments of clients, including mental, emotional, and physical health.
  • Keep detailed and concise records of each client throughout their treatment.
  • Conduct professional consultations with medical professionals, therapists, and court officers as appropriate.
  • Perform screenings, intake assessments, and consultations for evaluation of individual and family dynamics.
  • Provide ongoing social work intervention and education to patients, families, and significant others.
  • Utilize individual, family, group work, and crisis intervention methods to identify and intervene in problems.
  • Complete comprehensive psychosocial histories in a timely manner.
  • Provide direct treatment services to patients using appropriate modalities.
  • Act as a resource to the healthcare team regarding issues of chemical dependence and abuse.
  • Provide case management services for assigned caseloads.
  • Interpret the nature of illness and prescribed treatment to patients and families.
  • Act as a liaison to the healthcare team regarding family dynamics.
  • Advocate for patients with other Medical Center programs and community providers.
  • Make presentations on social work issues and available resources as part of community outreach.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary diagnostic and treatment planning conferences.
  • Fulfill all case recording, statistical reporting, and documentation requirements.
  • Provide clinical supervision to paraprofessional staff and students as assigned.
  • Assist in developing discharge care plans.
  • Maintain established departmental policies and procedures.
  • Participate in required department meetings.
  • Enhance professional growth through education programs and workshops.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
