About The Position

A Staff Engineer assists in creating, improving, and protecting our immediate environment. In this position, the individual drafts and assists in the design of construction and rebuilding, as well as the maintenance of water and wastewater systems, roads, drainage facilities, subdivision development, parks and recreation facilities, and Tribal Housing. The Staff Engineer should be open to learning and have basic knowledge of general engineering practices to identify and solve engineering problems. This individual should have a level of creativity to present innovative solutions and improvements to technical processes. The Staff Engineer can effectively communicate ideas, receive recommendations, and create project details with the assistance of their supervisor and team. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to complete all areas outlined for this position in a satisfactory manner. Requirements

  • Related work experience
  • Public infrastructure background
  • BS degree in Civil Engineering or related field (advanced degree preferred)
  • Engineer in Training preferred or the ability to obtain certification within the first year
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team setting
  • Travel may be required
  • May be required to work over 40 hours in a week, depending on workload and deadlines
  • Able to move safely over uneven terrain
  • Prepared to work in inclement weather conditions
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position and be able to work on a computer for long periods of time
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear
  • Possession of a valid California Driver’s License

Responsibilities

  • Principles and practices of civil engineering, construction design, surveying, inspection, cost estimation, contract administration, engineering materials and methods
  • Planning and analysis of engineering systems needed for the use of land development including streets, highways, water, storm drains, and grading
  • Basic computer knowledge, including MS Office applications and computer-aided drafting (CAD) concepts and applications
  • Develop plans for facility and infrastructure projects
  • Effectively represent the firm in meeting with clients, governmental agencies, community groups, and various business and professional organizations
  • Manage multiple tasks, often with competing deadlines
  • Prepare technical reports and plans, specifications, and estimates
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers, government officials, general public, representatives of public and private organizations and others sufficient to exchange or convey information
