About The Position
Clients is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to lead the design and development of scalable systems that power its audio data platform. This role will focus on building infrastructure and backend services that process large-scale audio datasets and enable customers to derive meaningful insights for training AI models. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical leadership, product engineering experience, and a track record of delivering scalable, production-grade systems.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience in backend or full-stack software engineering
- Strong experience building scalable, distributed systems and data pipelines
- Proficiency in backend development using modern frameworks (e.g., Node.js, TypeScript, or similar)
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS or equivalent)
- Proven track record of delivering production-grade, customer-facing systems
- Experience working in fast-paced, high-growth environments
- Demonstrated technical leadership through ownership, mentorship, or team leadership
Nice To Haves
- Experience with machine learning systems, data infrastructure, or large-scale data processing
- Familiarity with digital signal processing (DSP) or audio-related technologies
- Experience deploying machine learning models in production environments
- Prior experience leading engineering teams in startup or high-growth environments
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable backend systems for processing large-scale audio datasets
- Develop and deploy data pipelines handling high-volume, real-time data workloads
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including research and operations, to improve data collection and system performance
- Implement and evaluate solutions leveraging LLMs and digital signal processing (DSP) techniques
- Lead full lifecycle development of backend services from architecture through deployment
- Establish engineering best practices, standards, and system design principles
- Mentor and support the growth of engineering team members
