About The Position

Grafana Labs supports over 3,000 companies in managing their observability strategies with the Grafana LGTM Stack. The Staff Backend Engineer role focuses on the Databases team, which manages telemetry databases like Mimir, Loki, Tempo, and Pyroscope. The position involves working with a tech stack primarily in Go, running on Kubernetes across major Cloud service providers.

Requirements

• Solid experience with at least one programming language (preferably Go, but Python, C, C++, Rust, or similar are acceptable).
• Experience delivering projects from gathering requirements to shipping products.
• Experience developing software that runs in the Cloud or systems engineering.
• Experience running complex distributed systems at scale.
• Ability to write clean, robust, and maintainable software.

Nice To Haves

• Experience working with Kubernetes.
• Experience running Kafka at scale.
• Familiarity with Grafana and Prometheus in operational roles.
• Exposure to microservices architecture and distributed systems.
• Familiarity with being on-call and performing operations/SRE tasks.

• Drive projects from ideation to operations once in the hands of customers.
• Contribute to open-source culture and other projects outside the team's scope.
• Design, build, operate, and maintain critical systems, ensuring reliability and performance.
• Participate in on-call rotations and take ownership of services.
• Mentor and support team members, participate in design discussions, and collaborate.
• Learn new skills and gain a deeper understanding of the cloud product and codebase.
