About The Position

Back Market is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to join our Product Engineering organization. This role involves understanding customer needs and business vision while collaborating with leaders across the tech division to define our architectural vision. The ideal candidate will make high-judgment decisions to ensure the development of maintainable software solutions, help scale the team, and deliver efficiently. The position requires a hands-on approach to the software development lifecycle, demonstrating technical leadership and mentoring team engineers. The candidate should have a deep and broad expertise, producing both detailed technical work and high-level architectural designs, while striving for simplicity and understanding the costs associated with building and maintaining software.

Requirements

• Expertise in Go, even if the main language is Python at Back Market, but friendly with frontend frameworks.
• Technical expertise in building distributed systems addressing complex issues.
• Experience successfully operating in a service-oriented architecture.
• Experience mentoring and developing engineers.
• Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information clearly and concisely to various audiences.
• Nurture staff engineering practices at Back Market.

Responsibilities

• Take accountability for the entire technical ecosystem, including tools, languages, system lifecycle management, and software practices.
• Challenge and support the technical vision of the company, including the backend, and the organizational effectiveness according to the roadmap.
• Demonstrate clear and fluent communication skills, including the ability to speak internally and publicly at major events.
• Define and contribute to the continuous improvement of Back Market technical KPIs in collaboration with leadership.
• Contribute actively to the company's external visibility through networking, speaking at tech events, and open-source contributions.
• Operate across the entire tech division, entrusted with critical projects and initiatives.
