About The Position

Presbyterian is seeking a Staff Attorney II. This position will provide in-house counsel advice and services to Presbyterian Healthcare Services and its affiliates (PHS). Responsible for assisting in a variety of assigned legal projects including provider network contracting, health plan operations, and provider disputes. Provide legal and strategic guidance to support the health plan's provider contracting and network development functions. Performs a variety of consultative or advisory work; gathers evidence and information for management decision making; prepares, reviews and negotiates legal documents and agreements, including network provider contracts, value-based payment arrangements, single case agreements, and other related agreements; provides tactical and strategic advice and analysis of healthcare laws and regulations; provides legal oversight and direction for the organization's provider contracting process. Responsible for identifying and analyzing legal issues, drafting key documents, presenting clear recommendations, and ensuring legal compliance. Matters in question usually have a significant impact on the organization's operations, strategies, and financial condition. This is a recognized expert in complex fields of law. This is a Full Time position - Exempt: Yes Job is based at Rev Hugh Cooper Admin Center Work hours: Days Ideal Candidate will have be: Partnering closely with the provider network team on all issues related to provider contracting and provider disputes.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in one or more state and a member in good standing of the applicable state bar.
  • New Mexico license to practice law preferred or must be acquired as soon as practicable following employment.
  • 5 years of experience practicing in the health law field, with a focus on provider contracting.
  • Experience advising or working in a health plan, managed care organization or law firm serving healthcare clients.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with value-based contracting, risk-sharing agreements, or alternative payment models preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Advise business leaders on regulatory compliance, contract negotiations, dispute resolution, and operational strategies to ensure contracts with hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare providers align with legal requirements and business objectives.
  • Understand the regulatory requirements and legal issues impacting provider network contracts and value-based payment arrangements.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate provider agreements, including hospital, physician group, ancillary, behavioral health, and specialty provider contracts.
  • Provide legal advice to business stakeholders to identify and mitigate legal, regulatory, and business risk in proposed business transactions.
  • Collaborate with compliance, operations, and finance teams to ensure provider agreements meet organizational, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.
  • Assist in resolving provider disputes, contract enforcement issues, and regulatory audits or inquiries.
