About The Position

The Student Support Services (SSS) Coordinator/Advisor will work with the Director of TRIO SSS to develop, plan, and implement support services which result in increased academic performance, retention, and graduation rates of program participants. The coordinator will oversee the day-to-day operations of the program, and the identification and selection of eligible students who have been accepted and/or enrolled. The coordinator/advisor implements and provides a comprehensive approach/support to TRIO program participating students to enhance their potential for persistence and achievement in higher education inclusive of academic, financial aid, career transition adjustment and advising. This role will facilitate success adjustment seminars/workshops and coordinate recruitment activities and retention services for the program. Additionally, the coordinator provides administrative and office support for the TRIO SSS program; provides day to day support for the TRIO SSS office including: student/staff scheduling, student records and data management, front line problem solving and referrals for students and assist TRIO Director with federal compliance requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 2 years' experience coordinating, administering programs serving low income, first generation, students needing accessibility services, and under-represented students.
  • Experience in developmental education related to instruction and/or student support services, counseling and guidance.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • Availability to work some evenings and weekend work will be required.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the project related to the delivery of services (academic, financial, graduate school/career advising and adjustment, mentoring and creating cultural activities).
  • Counsel and coach student caseload providing academic, scheduling-advising and assisting in course registration, exploration of career pathways, financial, personal and transfer adjustment support.
  • Coordinate individual and group academic support, tutoring, and faculty mentoring for TRIO Student Support Services students in conjunction with the Writing Center, Math Lab Center, and the A.I.D. Skills Development and maintain records required by federal grant guidelines.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and supervise services inclusive of tutoring services, peer mentoring, and academic support.
  • Assist students in their financial adjustment: applying for financial aid and scholarships; design programs focused on financial and economic literacy.
  • Responsible for outreach to participants regarding appointments and TRIO activities.
  • Coordinates the planning and execution of summer academic components and facilitation of workshops assigned.
  • Coordinates logistics for the TRIO SSS Parent and Student Orientations.
  • Prepares, maintains, and oversees student files and records; enters and monitors student data in TRIO SSS databases/spreadsheets to track program progress toward federal objectives; assists in designing tracking forms, generating and preparing reports inclusive of annual performance reports and overseeing student contact data.
  • Responsible for assisting the TRIO Director in maintaining federal compliance and regulations as outlined by the grant, U.S. Department of Education and the university.
  • Assist TRIO Director with internal recruitment of participants and compliance with policies and procedures inclusive of working with director and the TRIO SSS Campus Advisory Committee to identify eligible university program participants and coordinate support services.
  • Collaborate with Assistant Director, Multicultural Affairs and Student Accessibility Services to promote/market the TRIO SSS program participants and outreach.
  • Collaborate with Counseling Office, Career Services, Office of Multicultural Affairs: AID Program, Upward Bound Program, Latino Education Institute, Early College; Urban Action Institute, Residence Life, Student Affairs, Financial Aid, Bursar's Office, Academic Success Center and other critical campus student services interfacing departments to assist in coordinating wraparound support for TRIO Student Support Services participants experiencing housing, food, or clothing insecurities.
  • Foster an institutional climate supportive of the success of students who are limited English proficient, students from groups that are traditionally underrepresented and under-served, individuals with disabilities, and additional disconnected students.
  • Demonstrates civility and professional, customer-service oriented behavior, worthy of emulation by other staff and students.
