About The Position

As a key member of the Student Engagement team the Coordinator of Programs for Student Belonging is dedicated to cultivating an inclusive, welcoming, and deeply connected campus environment where every student can thrive. This role is crucial in developing, implementing, and assessing programs and initiatives that enhance student belonging while actively supporting the mission, vision, and activities of the Center for Diversity and Inclusiveness (CDI). The Coordinator is responsible for directly contributing to belonging, inclusion, and student engagement efforts on campus by supporting and planning heritage month programs and initiatives. A key component of the role involves building capacity among students by advising student organizations that fall under the Center for Diversity and Inclusiveness. The Coordinator will also be instrumental in fostering critical understanding and empathy by facilitating dialogues with student populations around diversity, inclusion, and belonging topics. To ensure programming is effective and student-centered, the role requires the ability to collect data to inform office initiatives and assess outcomes. Above all, the Coordinator must prioritize the holistic care of historically and currently underserved student populations, ensuring their well-being is at the forefront of all planning and outreach. This position reports directly to the Director of Student Belonging.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience working with multicultural, diversity, and inclusivity affairs on a college/university campus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working in collaborative teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize, meet deadlines, make rational decisions, and function as part of a team.
  • The ability to present/facilitate diversity/inclusion workshops and or the willingness to learn.
  • The ability to work evenings and weekends as needed for effective program administration.
  • Interest in designing and implementing high-quality activities, programs, and services for students.
  • Must be able to satisfactorily pass a check conducted by the Criminal History Systems Board (CORI check) and a background check satisfactory to the university.
  • Ability to perform above duties with or without reasonable accommodations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide programmatic and leadership advising to an assigned caseload of affinity based student organizations.
  • Hire, train, and supervise CDI Ambassadors in their assigned duties.
  • Management of the CDI Office space, as a space that is welcoming, fosters a sense of connection and belonging, and encourages dialogue.
  • Support the Director in producing and collaborating with key constituents across campus on the development of programs, workshops, and training such as but not limited to:
  • Execute large scale programming efforts that promote social justice, cultural awareness, diversity, inclusion, and belonging (i.e. Soireé, Drag Show).
  • Provide student leadership training opportunities that focus on a more inclusive campus, peer-to-peer mentoring, LGBTQ+ belonging, and multicultural competency.
  • Heritage Month Programming: Hispanic (LatinX/A/O) Heritage Month, LGBTQ+ History Month, Black History Month, and Women's History Month.
  • Partner with the Director to develop and implement assessment tools to evaluate key programmatic initiatives and other markers of success including impact for retention and student success.
  • Promote and support CDI and university initiatives including physical presence at events and through digital communication via email and social media.
  • Conduct research on specific topics, including national and international diversity issues, student trends, inclusive practices, and other issues related to student belonging as assigned in order to develop innovative approaches to directly support students.
  • Explore opportunities for new student organizations that promote a sense of belonging and inclusion.
  • Work regular evening hours during the semester and occasional weekend work:
  • Participate in campus-wide events such as Orientation, Open Houses, and Future Falcons Day.
  • Flexible time arrangements will be discussed to ensure a mindful working experience.
  • Mentor traditionally underserved university students to ensure campus resources and support services are fully accessible.
