The Staff Assistant III (Program and Research Assistant) at Harvard University will support the Department of Global Health and Population at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. This role involves conducting research analyses, providing administrative support to Professor Winnie Yip, and managing various logistical aspects of research operations, particularly in the areas of health care systems and eldercare systems. The position requires a combination of independent work and collaboration within a team, focusing on research related to health policies and systems in both advanced and developing countries.

  • Conduct literature review and synthesis on eldercare policies and systems.
  • Conduct literature review and synthesis on the financing and organization of health care systems among advanced economies and lower- and middle-income countries.
  • Conduct simple data analyses.
  • Manage complex schedules for meetings, webinars, and other events, synchronizing schedule options for multiple team members in different time zones.
  • Assist in compiling and coordinating event materials, confirming and arranging logistics for smooth participation.
  • Maintain dissemination of project results and findings on social media and keep track of publications.
  • Arrange travel for selected team members, including preparing itineraries and making reservations.
  • Prepare and submit expense reports for selected team members in a timely manner.
  • Assist in maintaining content on project websites using WordPress.
  • Keep track of unanswered correspondence and meeting requests for prioritization by faculty director.
  • Greet visitors and answer routine inquiries with tact and discretion.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience is required; a combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • College degree strongly preferred, or an equivalent of education plus relevant business experience.
  • Experience and training in data analysis.
  • Experience in research assistant positions.
  • Good editing skills highly valued.
  • Experience formatting documents and presentations using Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience maintaining calendar with Outlook.
  • Experience maintaining digital library with Zotero or similar.
  • Experience maintaining website content with WordPress or similar.
  • Stellar written communication skills, with tact and diplomacy even in light of uncertainty or changes.
  • Experience working in an academic environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to anticipate and resolve problems and update supervisors on project status.
  • Awareness of and aptitude to understand, respect, and adapt to cultural and identity-based differences.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to concepts and issues tied to social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Skills related to creating and supporting an environment that allows for inclusion and effective intercultural engagement.
  • 3-4 weeks of accrued vacation time per year (3 weeks for support staff and 4 weeks for administrative/professional staff).
