The Opportunity at Komodo Health: Healthcare in the U.S. is a mess. Komodo Health is fixing that—with data. We’ve mapped the patient journey across the country to build the most complete picture of disease burden and treatment gaps. Our customers—pharma companies, payers, and health systems—use this data to make decisions that meaningfully improve patient outcomes. Labs@Komodo builds the AI-native platforms and systems that turn this data into action. We are the team behind Marmot, Komodo’s AI-native product—designed with AI embedded directly into both the interface and the development workflow. By combining Komodo’s unmatched healthcare data with modern LLMs, marmot is delivering some of the most compelling real-world insights of the new AI era. As part of marmot, we are building an enterprise-grade AI platform. This work sits at the intersection of AI agent architectures, complex data engineering, advanced data science, and messy healthcare data—and requires engineers who want to build systems, not just pipelines. Mission of the Role: As a Staff AI Platform Engineer, you define Komodo’s long-term AI platform direction. This role exists to architect foundational AI systems, establish company-wide standards, and act as a technical multiplier across teams—ensuring AI development is scalable, safe, and aligned with business goals. Looking back on your first 12 months at Komodo Health, you will have accomplished… Defined and advanced Komodo’s AI platform strategy aligned with product and business priorities. Architected foundational AI platforms (e.g., agent frameworks, orchestration layers, shared evaluation systems) adopted across teams. Established company-wide standards for AI reliability, safety, observability, and governance. Led high-impact AI initiatives that shifted platform capabilities or product direction. Unblocked complex, cross-team challenges through deep technical leadership and system-level thinking. Influenced build vs. buy decisions for AI tooling, infrastructure, and platforms. Acted as a force multiplier by mentoring senior engineers and driving organizational learning.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated impact architecting AI or data platforms at company scale.
  • Deep expertise in LLM-based systems, agent architectures, AI observability, and lifecycle governance.
  • Strong Python fluency and experience with modern GenAI frameworks and platform integration.
  • Proven ability to set technical direction and drive adoption across teams.
  • You will operate as a platform and strategy leader—setting patterns, driving adoption, and ensuring Komodo’s AI systems remain scalable, responsible, and future-ready.

  • Large-scale distributed systems background.

Responsibilities

  • Defining AI platform vision, reference architectures, and technical standards.
  • Designing and evolving foundational AI infrastructure used across Komodo.
  • Shaping data strategy from an AI perspective, including quality, structure, and long-term scalability.
  • Ensuring AI systems meet high bars for accountability, transparency, and reliability.
