About The Position

Liberty Electric is seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Staff Accountant to join our Finance team in Portland, OR. Reporting to the Vice President – Finance, this is a full-cycle accounting role - you'll be hands-on across accounts payable, accounts receivable, job costing, payroll, general ledger, and financial reporting. Construction accounting is a different animal than standard corporate finance, and we need someone who gets that. This role works closely with project managers and leadership to ensure accurate cost tracking, budgeting, billing, and financial reporting. If you're organized, analytically strong, and want to be a core part of a growing electrical contractor's finance operation, this role is a fit.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • 1–2 years of full-cycle accounting experience required.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and construction accounting principles, including job costing and project-based reporting.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills - pivot tables, complex formulas, financial modeling.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook; experience with construction accounting or ERP software a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Effective communicator with project managers, field teams, and external partners.
  • Self-directed with strong problem-solving skills; takes ownership and follows through.

Nice To Haves

  • Construction industry or project-based accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with Washington and Oregon tax compliance a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in all facets of full-cycle accounting: AP, AR, job costing, payroll, general ledger, and financial reporting.
  • Process and record accounts payable transactions; track and reconcile subcontractor invoices and payments.
  • Manage cash receipts processing and accounts receivable.
  • Monitor job costs, budgets, billings, and forecasts.
  • Review expense coding for company and job compliance.
  • Perform account reconciliations including bank statements, credit cards, fixed assets, accruals, and prepaid expenses.
  • Prepare and analyze project and company KPI's.
  • Support Washington and Oregon tax compliance filings.
  • Review project contracts to ensure proper compliance with tax and billing requirements.
  • Collaborate with project managers and field teams on project-level financial data.
