About The Position

Sunrock is seeking a detail-oriented Contracting Staff Accountant to support our Financial Planning & Analysis team. This role assists with month-end close, job cost reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, and financial analysis. The Staff Accountant works closely with project managers, vendors, and internal accounting teams to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely financial reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business required
  • 1–2 years of accounting experience (journal entries, AP/AR, reconciliations)
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting principles
  • Proficient with Excel and accounting software
  • Ability to analyze data, reconcile accounts, and resolve discrepancies
  • Excellent communication skills for working with vendors and internal teams
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize deadlines and manage multiple tasks
  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience preparing financial statements preferred
  • Accounts Payable experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with ERP or accounting systems (e.g., Viewpoint, Prophix, Sage Fixed Assets) is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post monthly journal entries for month-end close
  • Process vendor invoices (PO and non-PO), payments, and AP reconciliations
  • Reconcile job cost reports, vendor statements, and monthly AP aging
  • Ensure accurate application of incoming payments and resolve discrepancies
  • Assist with payroll entry and payroll-related expense accruals
  • Track certificates of insurance and vendor compliance documentation
  • Support internal audits, financial reporting, and annual operating plan preparation
  • Communicate with vendors and project managers to resolve issues
  • Maintain accurate accounting records and follow retention requirements
  • Support accounting team with analysis and continuous improvement initiatives
