Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. In this position, you can expect to be in the office three days per week. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days. In this position you can expect to work on site at the Webb Municipal Building at least three days per week. Who We Are & What You’ll Do The Department of Finance (DOF) is responsible for the fiscal health of the city. The DOF leads fiscal analysis and guidance, property assessments, budgeting, accounting functions, enforcement of fiscal policies, practices and procedures for the entire City and County of Denver. The DOF fulfills the state statutory responsibilities for tax assessment and collection. DOF also manages the City’s debt portfolio and investment portfolio. The DOF commits to delivering these services through a financial structure that reflects the best practices of both the public and private sectors. About the Controller’s Office The Office of the Controller keeps the City's ledgers and books, manages payroll and accounts payable; establishes and enforces Citywide financial policies, procedures and internal controls; produces the financial reports including the annually audited financial statements of the City; and works with agencies to improve financial skills. As a Staff Accountant, you will provide support in creating bank reconciliations and ad-hoc transactions, approving and reviewing journal entries, and making accounting adjustments as needed. The work will be fluid, dynamic, and require the highest level of customer service to our internal clients. Our team values innovative individuals with a strong commitment toward public service. The successful candidate must be able to handle maneuvering large datasets, manipulating data, and operating within various third-party systems. Excellent communication skills are necessary due to the breadth and depth of customer interface both within and outside of the department. Overall, the Staff Accountant will train and assist with: Reviewing, creating, and entering routine journal vouchers into accounting systems, ensuring accuracy of documents and matching records, and organizing and maintaining files Preparing and processing routine bank deposits, totaling balances and cash receipts, ensuring accuracy of deposit slips and bank statements, preparing and entering journal vouchers into financial systems, and post funds to proper account Preparing routine accounting reports, spreadsheets, and financial statements, research and compile data, assist with creating quarterly and annual reports, and assist with audits and supporting documentation Learning fiscal rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures, in order to reconcile discrepancies and ensure compliance with regard to fiscal accountability in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles Perform other related duties as assigned or requested

Responsibilities

  • Preparing routine accounting reports, spreadsheets, and financial statements, research and compile data, assist with creating quarterly and annual reports, and assist with audits and supporting documentation
