About The Position

The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the general accounting function and ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting for Goodwill Industries of North Louisiana, Inc. (Goodwill NLA). This position plays an essential role in maintaining the integrity of the Agency’s financial records and supporting the overall stewardship of resources entrusted to the organization. The Staff Accountant prepares journal entries, reconciles accounts, and maintains key accounting schedules in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), applicable laws, and Agency policies. Core responsibilities include importing and reconciling daily POS sales, preparing bank reconciliations, maintaining fixed asset and prepaid schedules, managing accruals and cost allocations across multiple cost centers, assisting with payroll-related general ledger entries, and supporting accounts receivable processes. The position also prepares audit work papers, assists with internal and external audits, and contributes to annual budget preparation and financial reporting. In addition to technical accounting responsibilities, the Staff Accountant collaborates with retail leadership and internal departments to resolve discrepancies, strengthen financial processes, and ensure accuracy across multi-site operations. The role supports special projects assigned by the Chief Financial Officer and Accounting Manager and upholds Goodwill NLA’s values through ethical financial stewardship, professionalism, and attention to detail. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business from an accredited college or university, with an emphasis in accounting, is required.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in financial statement preparation and general ledger reconciliation is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and nonprofit accounting practices.
  • Knowledge of general ledger structure, chart of accounts design, and internal control practices.
  • Understanding of fixed asset accounting, depreciation methods, accruals, prepaid expenses, and sales tax reporting.
  • Knowledge of accounts receivable aging, reconciliations, and audit support documentation.
  • Basic understanding of payroll accounting and related reporting requirements.
  • Familiarity with budgeting processes and financial statement preparation.
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, multi-site environment.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial and employee information.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software systems.
