About The Position

The Staff Accountant supports the Accounting Manager in the day‑to‑day accounting and financial operations of the company. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, supporting budgeting and financial planning activities, and ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The Staff Accountant plays a key role in promoting financial accuracy, transparency, and operational efficiency across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a professional services or project‑based accounting environment
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
  • Experience with project accounting and percentage‑of‑completion methodologies
  • Strong understanding of project financial metrics, including revenue, cost, overhead, and profitability
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with accounting, ERP, or project management systems
  • High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams
  • Sound judgment, critical thinking skills, and a proactive, self‑starter mindset

Nice To Haves

  • CPA or progress toward CPA designation preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and prepare supporting schedules and documentation
  • Assist with month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close processes
  • Prepare and analyze financial, profitability, and variance reports
  • Support internal controls, compliance activities, and internal or external audit requests
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting, billings, collections, tax‑related information, and data processing activities
  • Assist with financial planning, forecasting, and budget preparation; monitor performance against approved budgets
  • Maintain accurate records supporting the authorization and appropriation of company funds
  • Review financial and insurance requirements related to contracts and consulting agreements
  • Prepare routine and ad hoc financial reports for company leadership and management
  • Assist with maintaining and improving accounting systems and processes, including project‑based and percentage‑of‑completion accounting, where applicable
