About The Position

The Staff Accountant is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and timely processing of accounts payable, credit card reconciliations, and month-end close activities. This role supports the company's financial operations by maintaining efficient accounts' payable processes, reconciling statements, and completing month-end closing duties by established deadlines. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and committed to delivering results in a fast-paced construction environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction or related industry.
  • Strong understanding of accounts payable, reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint, or similar) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with a focus on accuracy and timeliness in processing financial transactions.
  • Analytical mindset, with the ability to monitor and improve KPIs such as AP turnover days and DPO (Days Payable Outstanding).
  • Effective problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve discrepancies efficiently.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines consistently.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with internal teams, vendors, and external partners.
  • Experience with credit card reconciliations and vendor payment processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with construction accounting practices, including job costing and lien waiver processes, is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Reconcile corporate credit card statements for Canyon State Electric and all ancillary entities, ensuring all transactions are properly documented.
  • Process credit card purchases, assigning appropriate cost codes and general ledger (GL) accounts for accurate job costing and financial reporting.
  • Oversee accounts payable (AP) data entry performed by virtual assistants (VAs) to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies, while monitoring AP turnover days and maximizing prepayment discounts.
  • Oversee inter-company transactions and reconciliation
  • Own the month-end close process, including preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and generating financial reports to meet deadlines (typically by the 15th of each month).
  • Reconcile vendor statements, resolving discrepancies promptly to maintain accurate vendor accounts.
  • Manage vendor payments, including processing non-lien waiver payments, ensuring timely disbursement while adhering to company policies.
  • Monitor and manage accounts payable metrics, such as days payable outstanding, to optimize cash flow and operational efficiency.
