JOB OVERVIEW The Staff Accountant will play a vital role in supporting the daily financial operations of Ability360. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with month-end close, and ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and regulations. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Prior experience in payroll
  • Solid understanding of fundamental accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior accounting experience in a nonprofit organization.
  • Experience working within a home care service environment preferred.
  • Experience in billing.
  • Working knowledge of nonprofit and fund accounting principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a consistent, respectful, and professional communication style.
  • Ability to perform effectively under pressure in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong multitasking capabilities and a commitment to completing tasks accurately and on time.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Process daily accounting transactions, including journal entries and bank reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and timely resolution of discrepancies.
  • Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including data entry, vendor communications, and reconciliations.
  • Manage a portfolio of grants by maintaining detailed financial records, monitoring expenditures, processing invoices, and ensuring compliance with grant-specific requirements.
  • Assist with the weekly payroll process, including calculating sick and travel time, and entering new hire information into ADP.
  • Serve as a backup for various accounting functions to ensure continuity of operations.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and relevant financial regulations.
  • Stay informed of changes in accounting standards and nonprofit financial regulations to support ongoing compliance and efficiency.
  • Assist in annual audit preparation by compiling and providing required financial documentation and reports.
  • Perform additional finance and administrative duties as assigned by the Controller.
