Position Summary: The Staff Accountant - Real Estate is responsible for supporting the Manager – Real Estate Accounting primarily with the accounting and reporting for rent income and expense, other real estate-related items, and related balance sheet accounts.

  • Knowledge of basic Generally Accepted Accounting Principles

  • Able to manage shifting priorities and deadlines
  • High attention to detail and excellent communication skills
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required
  • Minimum three to five years' accounting experience preferred

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ASC 842 lease accounting preferred but not required
  • Working knowledge of Yardi preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and/or review monthly and/or quarterly reconciliations/roll forwards for balance sheet and related income statement accounts for assigned areas, primarily related to rent income and expense and related areas.
  • Perform analytical review of lease related balances and provide balance sheet account movements to support cash flow reporting.
  • Assist with ASC 606 & ASC 842 revenue recognition and lease accounting.
  • Prepare and record month end journal entries.
  • Prepare annual recoverable charges reconciliation with our dealer customers.
  • Prepare monthly reports provided to leadership team related to assigned areas.
  • Performs high-level analytical procedures on income statement accounts and research variances.
  • Assist with quarterly SEC financial disclosures for assigned areas.
  • Work with auditors to provide documentation and resolve questions within areas of responsibility.
  • Support budget and forecast process, specifically regarding rent income, rent expense, property taxes and operating expenses.
  • Assists in preparing external site level P&Ls for third party lease requirements.
  • Assist in managing accounts receivable processes and perform intercompany and related party journal entries.
  • Ensure compliance with SOX controls for areas of responsibility.
  • Support and participate in special projects (ad-hoc reports) as assigned.
