About The Position

2ndWave is seeking a Staff Accountant I to provide entry-level accounting and administrative support within a federal financial management environment. This position assists with payment processing, transaction recording, reconciliations, and documentation in support of accounts payable, obligations, travel, and interagency financial activities. Employment is contingent upon successful contract award and funding. This position follows a hybrid work schedule, requiring a minimum of two (2) days per week on-site in Rockville, MD, with up to three (3) days per week eligible for telework. Requirements

  • Associate degree in Accounting or a business-related discipline.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in federal government accounting or financial operations.
  • Basic understanding of federal accounting principles and transaction processing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established financial procedures.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Security Clearance Required: Must have an immediate completed Public Trust Level 4 or higher investigation in the last 4 Years.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in processing invoices, travel-related payments, and other financial transactions within a federal accounting system.
  • Support obligation entry and maintenance, including review of supporting documentation.
  • Perform basic reconciliations to validate transaction accuracy and identify discrepancies.
  • Assist in responding to stakeholder inquiries related to payment status and financial records.
  • Support audit and internal control activities by gathering and organizing required documentation.
  • Maintain records in accordance with federal records management requirements.
  • Participate in required information security and privacy training.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office tools and federal financial systems to complete assigned duties.
