About the position

The Staff Accountant - Financial Reporting is a key member of the finance team supporting the organization in ensuring timely, complete and accurate presentation of financial activities in compliance with GAAP. Reporting to the Accounting Supervisor - Financial Reporting, the Staff Accountant - Financial Reporting will be responsible for general ledger transaction processing, financial reporting and analysis, cost allocations, audit support, implementation and maintenance of internal controls, and safeguarding agency assets. Provides support on fiscal matters in accordance with Volunteers of America - Greater New York, Inc. policy and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare standard journal entries for daily business transactions and the month-end closing, including cost allocations.
  • Analyze and reconcile various general ledger and sub-ledger transactions and account balances monthly, including bank reconciliations, to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and yearly financial reporting and analysis and ad hoc reports.
  • Review, record, and reconcile company credit card activity.
  • Enter invoices for administrative and allocable expenditures into Microsoft Business Central.
  • Provide support for internal and external audit engagements.
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of Volunteers of America-Greater New York policies and procedures to comply with regulations and safeguard agency assets.
  • Provide support on financial initiatives and projects, and perform other related duties as required.
  • Perform other related duties as requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting and one year of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and FASB standards is required.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to organize work and perform duties with a high level of accuracy.
  • Collaborative work style and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office suite with strong Excel skills.
