About The Position

THE ROLE: Staff Accountant, Corporate Accounting The Staff Accountant will support the International Revenue Accounting team in contract setup, billing, and revenue recognition processes, ensuring accuracy across multiple systems and platforms. The role will also work closely with both internal and external partners on responding to and resolving billing inquires. The role combines core accounting knowledge, analytical ability, and attention to detail in managing large volumes of contract data. On our team, you’ll gain exposure to the full lifecycle of revenue accounting, from contract entry through recognition, billing, and International royalty reporting. You’ll also have opportunities to strengthen accounting knowledge and help streamline processes. This position reports to the Manager, Accounting and partners cross-functionally with Sales, Collections, FP&A, Royalties, and IT.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting strongly preferred.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience, ideally within media or content distribution, performing corporate accounting related tasks.
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles and familiarity with revenue recognition guidance (i.e. ASC 606).
  • Understanding of accrued revenue and deferred revenue concepts.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience, ideally within media or content distribution, performing corporate accounting related tasks
  • Experience with contract/revenue management systems such as FilmTrack preferred.
  • Advanced skills with MS Excel is strongly preferred with familiarity with large data sets.

Nice To Haves

  • Excellent reading comprehension and analytical skills with the ability to interpret and translate financial components of contracts into system actions and ask clarifying questions when terms are unclear.
  • Experience with an ERP system; ideally SAP ECC or SAP S/4HANA.
  • Curious and improvement-oriented, with a strong investigative mindset and problem-solving ability.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage competing priorities in a high-pressure environment, while remaining results driven.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; comfortable collaborating cross-functionally.
  • Comfortable using automation and AI tools (e.g. ChatGPT) to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update International sales contracts and amendments in the FilmTrack system, including reviewing and entering key financial deal points.
  • Review billing schedules, contracts, and system data to ensure accuracy of revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606 and A+E accounting policies.
  • On an ad-hoc basis, ensure proper revenue recognition via accruals outside of the FilmTrack system.
  • Assist in applying revenue recognition rules to determine timing and classification of revenue across contract types.
  • Respond to collection inquiries by reviewing contract terms, explaining invoice structures, and resolving client billing discrepancies in coordination with Sales and Collections.
  • Assist with monthly close process, including reconciling key balance sheet accounts and ensure data integrity across the subledger and G/L.
  • Research and clear historical revenue variances or reconciling items.
  • Prepare non-sales invoices and ensure proper accounting treatment.
  • Support the Manager in continuous process improvements related to billing and revenue accuracy, ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal controls and deadlines.
  • Provide support in reviewing externally sourced revenue data in connection with billing or accounting inquiries, as needed.
