This is a 10-week internship starting June 8 or 15 and is fully on-site at the listed office location. Department Overview The Stack Center of Excellence at Bloom Energy is the cutting edge in solid oxide electrochemical technology research and development. We are creating the next generation of solid oxide fuel cell materials and architectures using our unique prototyping, fabrication, and characterization capabilities.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Materials, Chemical, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Must be graduating between May 2026 and August 2027

Nice To Haves

  • Completing an MS in Materials, Chemical, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline
  • 1-2 years of academic or industrial lab experience (e.g., lab work for credit or pay while pursuing BS/MS degree)
  • Exceptional analytical skills, independent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Strong self-starter and team player with a can-do attitude
  • Strong drive for results and continuous improvement
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
  • 2-4 years of academic or industrial lab experience (e.g., lab work for credit or pay while pursuing BS/MS degree)
  • Ceramics or metallurgical processing experience
  • Electrochemical systems experience
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, R, JMP, or other statistical data analysis tools

Responsibilities

  • Work with an interdisciplinary team focused on fabrication and performance improvements of our solid oxide fuel cell and electrolysis cell stacks
  • Perform Critical to Quality (CTQ) measurements of experimental cell and stack materials and components
  • Assist in the design and building of new architectures of cells and stacks in the laboratory
  • Optimize new process flows in the laboratory
  • Collect, organize, analyze, and report mechanical and rheological data, e.g., through Design of Experiments
