This position demonstrates the ability to learn and develop skills to effectively perform a specialized role or to cross-train in multiple areas. It relies on the ability to work well in a team environment, prioritize customer needs, and adhere to operating procedures. The work is performed under direct supervision and may include essential job functions similar to cashier, merchandising and sales, warehouse, and plant nursery.

  • Greet customers in a welcoming and professional manner.
  • Utilize customer-focused interpersonal skills including smiling, making eye contact, and helping lift products as necessary.
  • Assist customers with quickly locating merchandise in the showroom.
  • Introduce customers to a senior team member when specialized assistance is needed.
  • Replenish, face, and organize merchandise on shelving.
  • Move inventory utilizing proper lifting techniques and equipment.
  • Assist with signage, pricing, and shelf labeling.
  • Ensure a neat and professional presentation according to facility procedures.
  • Process checkout transactions utilizing point of sale equipment.
  • Accurately handle cash and make change.
  • Fill customer orders accurately with merchandise from showroom floor and/or warehouse.
  • Load customer vehicles as needed.
  • Receive merchandise into the warehouse and inspect shipments.
  • Escalate order errors or damage to appropriate team member.
  • Effectively utilize forklifts, pallet jacks, and other equipment.
  • Stage merchandise for showroom restocking and upcoming deliveries.
  • Assist with physical inventory counts.
  • Answer incoming telephone calls in a professional manner.
  • Maintain the health and overall appearance of plant material in the garden center.
  • Perform daily housekeeping duties according to facility procedures.
  • Monitor entrances and exits to promote store safety and security.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Familiarity with agriculture, plant science, equine, livestock, pet care, or retail and inventory management.
  • Ability to learn and demonstrate knowledge of facility guidelines and standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to learn and effectively apply knowledge of a variety of merchandise.
  • Ability to utilize equipment and tools including forklift and/or point of sale terminal.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Attention to detail when handling inventory, equipment, and cash transactions.
  • Customer-focused interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate teamwork and flexibility.
  • Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.
  • Ability to work extended hours and/or alternate schedules.
