There are still lots of open positions. Let's find the one that's right for you.
This workshop will focus on the parables of Jesus, examining them within their Roman Palestinian agrarian context while also engaging with modern pre- and postcolonial agrarian contexts, such as those found in West Africa and other indigenous cultures. Participants will explore various issues, including the impact of imperially enforced agricultural practices on subsistence-based economies, methods of land fertilization, ecojustice concerns informed by faith traditions, and the implications of these factors for experiencing and exercising God's reign. The seminar will address several key questions regarding the structure and meaning of parables, their insights into power dynamics among different social classes, and their reflections on culture, religion, and the economic landscape of Roman Palestine. Additionally, the workshop will consider parallels between the agrarian economy of Roman Palestine and contemporary agricultural practices, as well as the relevance of rereading the parables of Jesus today.
