About The Position

SSS is seeking SIX qualified applicants for the position of STEM Supplemental Instruction Leader (SI) for its Summer Bridge Program. The position will center on providing support to students, faculty, and staff in the STEM course and in the residence hall. The STEM SI will serve as a Supplemental Instruction Leader, academic tutor for incoming first-year students, and assistant to the SSS summer faculty and staff. Qualifications, duties, and responsibilities are listed below. Over the course of Summer Bridge, TRIO SSS Science SIs develop greater patience, empathy, and class assessment skills as they help the six to seven students review, process, and better understand materials stemming from lectures, curriculum, and lab. All the while, they model good study skills, class engagement, and behavior. Moreover, given the work SIs do to tailor their advice to individual students, the Science SIs build their supervisory skills, as they essentially run their own classes five days a week. Finally, Science SIs deepen their collaborative skills, as they plan, practice, and refine their lessons with help from the other SIs, along with their TA co-facilitators.
