The SSN Paraprofessional for Severe Needs at the Transitional Learning Center is responsible for providing direct academic and behavioral support to students with severe disabilities. This role involves working closely with both special education and general education classes, ensuring that students receive the necessary modifications to materials and instruction tailored to their individual needs. The paraprofessional will engage in life skills training and provide personal care or medical assistance as delegated by the School Nurse. A critical aspect of this position is the collection of data and maintenance of student records, which is essential for tracking progress and ensuring compliance with educational standards. The paraprofessional must be prepared to work with students who may exhibit challenging behaviors, including physical aggression. This requires a strong ability to de-escalate situations using approved Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) measures and to follow prescribed behavior intervention plans. The role also includes facilitating peer relationships and natural supports, monitoring students during various school activities, and ensuring their safety and security in all environments, including the lunchroom and playground. In addition to direct support, the paraprofessional will assist teachers with minor clerical duties, attend required training sessions, and participate in student staffings as requested. Collaboration with other paraprofessionals and adherence to daily routines and schedules for individual students are also key responsibilities. This position is vital in creating a supportive and effective learning environment for students with severe needs.
