SSMO Software Engineering Intern Citizenship Requirement: Must be a U.S. Citizen Directorate: Space Science Mission Operations (SSMO) Work Location: GSFC with some telework flexibility Schedule: 40 hours/week with flexibility as needed Overview KBR is seeking a Software Engineering Intern to support the NASA Davinci Ground System Manager (GSM) within the Space Science Mission Operations (SSMO) Directorate. This internship offers the opportunity to work directly with NASA engineering leadership on software tool evaluations, prototyping, and mission‑supporting ground system capabilities.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate technical degree program at an accredited university.
• Interns are not expected to be experts, but should have a strong willingness to learn, experiment, and engage in hands‑on technical exploration.

Nice To Haves

• Basic familiarity with virtual environments and cloud‑based technologies.
• Exposure to Linux and programming languages such as Java, Python, or Perl.
• General familiarity with software development concepts and workflows.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the NASA Davinci Ground System Manager on a Software Tool Trade Study and Prototyping effort.
• Evaluate candidate tools for capabilities such as: Telemetry visualization (e.g., OpenMCT vs. AMMOS) Data processing pipeline frameworks PDS4 archive tooling
• Interview developers and operators to gather functional and operational requirements.
• Conduct hands‑on prototyping of 2–3 candidate tools.
• Produce a trade study report including: Scored evaluations Working prototypes Build‑vs‑buy recommendations
• Explore new tools and technologies with guidance from project leads.
